North Sydney Local Court

North Sydney local court is located on the Pacific Highway in the middle of North Sydney next to the old post office along with the police prosecutor’s office and the sheriff’s office in North Sydney. The jurisdictional area of the North Sydney Local Court is quite large and includes matters to be heard from Mosman, Willoughby, Neutral Bay, Kirribilli, Milson’s Point, Greenwich, and all of the surrounding suburbs. Some of the closest local courts which can overlap in their areas of jursidiction are the central local court, the downing centre local court, the Hornsby local court, Ryde local court, Manly Local Court and all of the other local courts in the Sydney area. If matters become serious enough, they can be transferred to the District Court of New SOuth Wales which can hear indictable criminal matters and matters in a civil jurisdiction of up to $750,000.00 in value. The District Court has offices in Sydney CBD and Parramatta in Sydney.

The North Sydney Local court deals with the jurisdiction that all New South Wales Local Courts Deal with which is a summary jurisdiction in criminal matters and a civil jurisidiction for matters where the quantum of damages in a liquidated claim is beneath $60,000.00. So the types of matters that could conceivably be heard in the North Sydney Local Court include drink driving offences, apprehended violence orders, minor property therft offences, minor matters of assault, graffiti and other less serious criminal matters. The civil claims that can be heard are things like debt recovery, small building and construction disputes, small contractual disputes and debt claims.
