Barrister Chambers

What Barrister Chambers are in Sydney?

There are a large number of barrister’s chambers in Sydney. There are some which are based in Parramatta near the court complex there and there are some which are based in the city near the New South Wales Supreme Court and the court buildings on Goulburn Street in Sydney and near the Downing Centre, which is the major court complex where criminal law cases are heard in Sydney. Barrister’s Chambers tend to house a series of floors of barristers which are individual service companies that employ some clerks and pay for the rent on the building that houses the barristers. Various chambers have barristers who specialise in particular types of work and refer overflow work to barristers who are more junior than themselves. Usually, the floor would be led by a Senior Barrister who would either be a Queens Counsel (QC) or a Senior Counsel (SC). There would then be junior and ‘senior junior’ barristers involved in the work conducted by the floor of barristers who would generally take their lead from the Senior Barristers on the floor.

If you need to talk to a barrister, we can guide you to a barrister who should be able to assist you at short notice if you have a court related matter coming up urgently or you need urgent legal advice. Barrister’s chambers are normally located very close to a court complex so unless your matter is a local court matter, you should be able to find a barrister quite easily around the court complexes in the Sydney City area and the Parramatta Court Complex. If you need a barrister for a court such as Waverly local court, North Sydney Local Court, Hornsby local court, Ryde Local Court or Manly Local Court, you may need to look further afield in order to find a barrister who will represent you. Also, in many cases it can be preferable to have a solicitor for a local court matter because of the reduced cost as opposed to a barrister.
