What is immigration law?
Immigration law is the set of laws and regulations which relate to the intake of new permanent residents and citizens of a country. We deal with many people who are looking to immigrate to Australia and occasionally some who are looking to emigrate from Australia. Australia is known for having one of the toughest systems of immigration law in the world. Because Australia is an extremely popular destination for immigration, increasingly over the few years which have passed the rules for immigrating to Australia have been tightened significantly. Unless you have a provable skill set which is on the skilled occupations list or you have a large amount of money available to invest in a business or to support yourself independently of the Australian economy it will be very difficult to immigrate to Australia.
Naturally, Australia has a number of visas which allow you to immigrate here which on their face, do not have an economic component such as the family visa and the spouse visa. However, all of these require assurances of support which are basically agreements with the government that the giver of the assurance will pay any social security liability if the person coming to Australia claims this. Obviously, this is a big commitment for the person signing the assurance and you need to make sure that if you are going to do this, you have the financial resources to be able to pay for it otherwise you risk going bankrupt for the sake of the person that comes here with no other means of support unless they can somehow establish that they are refugee which is virtually impossible unless there is evidence of persecution from the country which the person is coming from. However, having highlighted all of the difficulties which can arise with an immigration matter, Australia is still a great place to live and thousands and thousands of people do successfully immigrate here every year. and establish themselves as members of Australian society.
